7 Ways to Beat the Heat at Sloss Fest

Reading time: 1 minute

Sloss Fest is among us, and as everyone living in Alabama knows, July can be unbearably hot. Luckily we’ve come up with some sneaky ways to stay cool and refreshed, even in the 90+ degree heat.

Say hello to these seven cool-down-quick hacks, just in time for Birmingham’sfavorite music festival.

  1. Grab a Cold Drink - Piggly Wiggly’s Craftly Beerly Garden (yes, that’s the real name) will be full of brews, and Starr Hill Craft works will also be featuring a ton of craft beers. Not a beer person, but still want something to take the edge off? Redmont Vodka Lounge will be shaking up ice cold toddies to help you cool down.

  2. Get Techy - The VIP booth in BBVA Compass Tech Dome will feature cutting-edge FinTech (and AC!!!) all weekend long. The cool news? If you’re a BBVA cardholder, you’re automatically granted free access into the VIP lounge.

  3. Throw Some Shade - Shade tents and misting stations will be provided free of charge all weekend. Check out the map on the Sloss website to find the one closest to you.

  4. Drink Up for a Cause - If you haven't heard we will be serving up delicious cold brew and sweet tea from our mobile café. Every dollar made will go to The Arc of Jefferson County, a local charity that provides lifetime assistance to those who work through disabilities in their daily life. Find out more about the partnership HERE.

  5. Take a Bite - Steel City Pops will be serving up their popsicles at two on-site locations. If you haven’t already tried the buttermilk flavor, you’re missing out!

  6. Take Advantage of Mother Nature - Sloss Furnaces has trees where local festival-goers like to string up their hammocks and take a siesta between shows. Bring your hammock, and relax in the shade!

  7. Free Is Your Friend - It’s easy to get caught up buying t-shirts, gear and food. But, don’t forget if you run out of money for refreshment Logan’s Roadhouse will be providing free water all weekend. So be sure to bring your favorite refillable bottle and stay hydrated all weekend long!
