Royal Cup works tirelessly to challenge the status quo within the beverage industry by relentlessly driving product and service innovation. Our team is not only excited about the technological improvements we will introduce in 2019, but those of other companies as well. We view such external innovations as challenges to keep pushing ourselves to better meet our customers’ dynamic needs.

So, what cutting-edge technologies can you expect from the coffee industry in 2019?

Artificial Intelligence

As artificial intelligence’s (AI) capabilities have drastically expanded over the past few years, AI’s ability to positively impact a wide variety of industries has increased accordingly. One way in which AI technology will soon affect our industry is its potential use in the coffee bean growing process. For example, a recent study found that AI could aide farmers in accurately analyzing “soil fertility properties “and generating “an accurate estimation” of coffee yield.

Blockchain

Consumers are increasingly calling for transparency in how the products they consume are produced. In fact, according to a study conducted by Label Insight, a majority of respondents indicated “it is very important” for beverage brands to be transparent. So, how exactly can the beverage industry begin to provide such openness?

Simply put, blockchain.

The blockchain process would allow a coffee company and their supplier to issue “smart contracts” that lay out mutually agreed upon terms that are continuously documented which helps guarantee the quality and lineage of goods or services sold. Such a record would provide coffee drinkers transparency and documented traceability to the beans used for the coffee they drink daily.

Drones

From Amazon shipping capabilities to recreational use, drones have become increasingly intertwined in our lives. Luckily, there will be a new, convenient coffee-delivery system flying your way very soon. IBM has recently patented a drone that solely exists to deliver coffee and other drinks. The drone would be able to detect and measure physiological processes such as blood pressure, pupil dilation and facial expressions through a Fitbit-style device, as well as note the recipient’s scheduled appointments through integrating with his or her digital calendar. As this type of drone technology begins to be rolled out into the public arena, it will be exciting to provide our customers with increased availability and access to Royal Cup beverages.

Royal Cup takes pride in its ability to consistently create beverage products and services that meet consumers’ changing needs. We push ourselves every day to supply coffees and teas that establish the benchmark for the beverage industry. Whether by creating new product lines or paying homage to our 120-year history, we are devoted to making our customers proud to call Royal Cup their beverage of choice in 2019 and beyond.
